Help Save Kakinada
http://act.greenpeace.org/ams/e?a=1726&s=gen
The white sandy beaches of Kakinada, India could be turned into polluting scrapyards. With the compliments of the European Union. Kakinada is home to diverse wildlife and supports thousands of traditional fisher families. All this is threatened by plans to break thousands of oil tankers banned by the EU and the International Martime Organisation (IMO) on April 5th, 2005. Join the Kakinada fisherman families in their protest and send an email to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Ask the Chief Minister to block the plans to set up shipbreaking yards on the pristine beaches of Kakinada. Also ask the EU Transport Ministers to take urgent action to promote clean and safe shipbreaking facilities rather than allow these ships to scrapped in appalling conditions in India.
